The Refloor System The Refloor System

Welcome to the promotional website of Refloor Systems, a new and revolutionary product development by HandyTiling.

Refloor is a revolutionary and patent pending raised access flooring system, primarily developed to renovate existing floors. This website has been created to promote the Refloor product and to find partners for finalising the development and marketing of the system.

Advantages of the Refloor System

  • Easy to install

    Reason 1

The Refloor System eliminates the preparation work that is needed to install conventional raised access flooring systems. Panels can be adjusted in height and levelled from the top.

  • Effective & flexible

    Reason 2

The Refloor System can be installed and de-installed very quickly without any demolition. No other system on the market today provides an easy "Click-system" to quickly renovate floors.

  • Sustainable

    Reason 3

At the end of the product life cycle the Refloor System parts can simply be taken apart and reused.

THE SYSTEM
the system explained

The Refloor System is being developed primarily to be able to renovate and/or level floors. The system consists of panels and pedestals. The pedestals purpose is to carry the panels, determine the height of the newly created floor, level the floor surface and to merge the neighbouring panels together.

Refloor has several major advantages over existing raised access flooring systems that are currently being used for the same purpose.
With the Refloor System it is no longer necessary to first draw a grid pattern on the subfloor to determine where the pedestals have to be glued onto the subfloor.

Using the Refloor System the pedestals are inserted into the panels. With Refloor, adhesives are no longer needed and the pedestals are always in a perfect 90 degree angle towards the panel, guaranteeing optimal floor stability and no waiting time for adhesives to dry.

Inserting the pedestals into the panels has an additional advantage; the pedestals will always be perfectly positioned underneath the panel. In a conventional raised access flooring system where pedestals are glued to the subfloor any deviation in this process will lead to suboptimal positioning of the pedestal leading to problems in strength, stability and height differences between neighbouring panels, see figure 2.

As shown in figure 1, the pedestals are inserted into the panel board. One of the great features of the Refloor System is that adjustment and readjustment can be done with a simple tool, like a screwdriver, from the top.

Figure 3 shows a close-up of the actual pedestal. As shown in the picture, one unit actually consists of 3 pedestals held together by a spring construction. The purpose of the spring is to create the flexibility needed during installation and to pull and keep neighbouring panels together. The current prototypes of the Refloor System panels are rectangular and have a size of 100 x 50 cm.

This size makes it easy for one person to install the panels. Depending on the weight of the panels an alternative size could be 120 x 60 cm. It is also possible to use square panels. In this case a pedestal unit would consist of four individual panels held together by a spring construction. The expected optimal size for a square panel is 60 x 60 cm. However, the ideal panel size depends ultimately on the product properties of the panel material.

Some of the major advantages of the Refloor System are:

  • Elimination of the main shortcomings of conventional lower raised access flooring systems
  • Extreme flexibility; adjustments for height and levelling are also possible after instalment
  • Absence of adhesives and drying time
  • Avoidance of damage to the subfloor, therefore also ideal for use in monumental buildings
  • Possibility for cable management
  • Sustainability; at the end of the product life cycle, every element can be reused.

INSTALLATION
of the system explained

The Refloor System is extremely easy to install. First the full size panels are installed, followed by the panels that have to be cut towards the edges and wall.

For the first panel that is installed, six pedestals have to be clicked into the panel board. Then the panel is positioned on the subfloor. The pedestals of this first panel have to be adjusted to reach the desired height and levelness.

The top part of the pedestal is conically shaped for easy positioning of the pedestals into the panel board. Before positioning the second panel, four pedestals need to be inserted into this panel. The holes on one side of this second panel need to be left empty, as the pedestals on one side of the first panel slot in the holes of the second panel during installation.

Each panel in the first row of panels needs to be installed in this way. From the second row of panels in, the second panel requires only two pedestal units per panel to be pre-inserted, the other empty holes slot in the pedestals of the already installed system elements.
